Handles, Mugs. Not for mugs.

Making mugs.

I never tire of this. And it's Summer, so the water isn't friggin cold and things dry quickly.

Escaped to Sydney.

Sydney, it was great to see you. You're people are amazing; creative, industrious, skilled and so so hospitable. You fed me with food and a new sense of inspiration. 2 teacups for artist.

2 cups made especially for someone that really enjoys a good cup of tea. I really enjoyed making these, and I was especially happy with the results of a little handle. I'll make more, for sure.#teacuphandles #smallerisbetter #ceramics#pottery #handmade #potterswheel #craft#australianceramics #madeinaustralia#madeinvictoria #madeincentralvic#imadethis #tea #espresso #coffee #glaze#happyhandles

2 mugs in muggy weather.

This is all I do now. I make mugs.
Oh, I make the occasional bowl too, but my immediate obsession is mugs. It comes from my obsession (addiction) with coffee, and a need for a larger (decent) sized vessel to contain it in. I suppose the other revelation for me is a handle. I never used to like handles, I love Yunomi's. Perhaps it's the move to resolve technique. And when it comes to good handles, it's all about technique.
Anyway, this is what's keeping me busy at the moment. Though the unseasonable hot and humid (muggy) weather is taking its toll. Looking forward to a more typical Autumnal season.

finished mug.

And here is a glazed/finished mug.
I've spent a lot of time working on the aesthetic of the handle. At the end of the day, it comes down to simplicity of curve.

Smaller handled vessel.

A smaller vessel, either for a stronger shot of coffee or perhaps a bold cup of tea.

Standard mug.

Big enough for my size coffee. And a nice cylinder shape that keeps it hot.
Each purposely individual with the throw line to share the sense of the maker and hand made individuality.

Bottle vase.

This form is a joy to throw.
It took a while to get the proportion of the neck right, but it should be quite straight forward to the next ones. The only concern throwing these is the compression of all that clay to make such a small rim. Some issues with creasing? (not sure what the correct term is; if you've thrown this sort of form, you probably have an idea of what I'm suggesting. That gathering of clay, wanting to "crease"?), but I'm having less issues the more I make this form.
I've put my "potter's mark" on the outside of this vase, rather than my usual, stamping of the base. I like that it is prominent. Suggests some confidence in the shape I think.
